AEW Owen Hart Cup 2025 Kicks Off
The AEW Owen Hart Cup 2025 has commenced, beginning with the Dynasty pay-per-view event and continuing through the weekly episodes of Dynamite and Collision. The lineup for the upcoming special Dynamite: Spring BreakThru has been revealed, and one of the competitors in that match is a strong contender for the cup.
As reported by a prominent wrestling news source, it appears that Mercedes Mone is the frontrunner to win the AEW Owen Hart Cup 2025, allowing her to further her storyline of accumulating championships.
Winning the AEW Owen Hart Cup will grant her a unique championship belt, marking the fifth title in her collection. Additionally, this victory will position her for a future title match in the AEW Women’s World Championship scene.
The tournament's finale is scheduled to take place at the AEW Double or Nothing 2025 pay-per-view event in late May. Should Mone secure the win, she will have the chance to challenge for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In: Texas.
In her opening match at AEW Dynasty, reigning TBS Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone triumphed over Julia Hart, advancing in the Women’s AEW Owen Hart Cup 2025 tournament. She is set to compete again in the semifinals during the AEW Dynamite Spring BreakThru special next week.
During last night’s Dynamite, it was announced that Mone will wrestle in her hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, on April 16 against the winner of the Athena vs. Harley Cameron quarterfinals match, which is scheduled for this Saturday’s Collision. If Athena emerges victorious, fans can look forward to the anticipated matchup between Athena and Mone.
Mone made her AEW debut in Boston at the Big Business Dynamite special in March 2024, although she did not compete that night. Therefore, her upcoming match in the AEW Owen Hart Cup 2025 will mark her first wrestling appearance in Boston since a February 2020 tag team match on WWE SmackDown, where she, then known as Sasha Banks, teamed with Naomi against Bayley and Lacey Evans.
