The use of power banks in flights is being banned by airlines around the world. Most airlines are going to tighten the rules regarding power banks, one of the most used things like mobiles. While till now power banks of more than a certain capacity could be used in flights, now the use of any power bank in flights is being banned. Let us tell you that on 28 January 2025, a fire broke out in an Air Busan passenger plane at Gumhae International Airport in South Korea. On March 14, the Transport Ministry of South Korea said that the fire was caused by a malfunction in a power bank. It is believed that after this incident, many airlines around the world have tightened the rules regarding power banks.

These airlines made the rules strict.

Qantas Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Cathay Pacific are some of the airlines that have shown strictness regarding power banks. All these airlines have not banned carrying power banks up to a certain limit, but their use during the flight will be completely banned. In terms of international rules, the capacity of your power bank must be mentioned on it. Apart from this, the rules also say that the passenger should keep his power bank in hand luggage. Apart from this, it is also advised that the power bank should be kept near the seat instead of the cabin on the flight.

What do the rules say

Airlines around the world have been issuing guidelines related to carrying power banks with their luggage for years due to safety. In this, instructions and advice related to lithium-ion batteries have been given. These batteries can heat up rapidly. Apart from this, there is a possibility of short circuit due to any defect. Let us tell you that in 2016, the International Civil Aviation Organization banned carrying power banks in carry-on luggage i.e. cabin baggage in passenger planes.

Check these rules before traveling
If you are also going to travel by flight soon, then it will be better that you take such precautions. Before booking a flight ticket, check what is the policy of that airline regarding the power bank. Check your power bank as well. It should not be swollen or broken. Apart from this, also check the capacity of the power bank to see if it is within the prescribed limit. Keep your power bank with you in the flight and keep it in a place where it is easy to access. Whether allowed or not, avoid using power bank during the flight. You can use the power sockets present in the flight to charge your devices.
