Amroha: In a dramatic turn of events from Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, a 26-year-old woman named Shabnam divorced her husband and abandoned her three daughters to marry her lover, a class 12 student from her neighbourhood.

The incident was met with widespread criticism in the region, particularly due to the age gap between the couple, their religious differences, and Shabhnam's decision to leave her family behind. Shabnam, now renamed Shivani, tied the knot with Shiva, at a local temple in Said Nagli.

The couple claimed that they married out of mutual consent and are happy together. “We have married of our own free will and both are very happy. No one should interfere in our lives. Because, we are adults. We have vowed to live and die together,” Shabnam told Aaj Tak.

Panchayat Backs Relationship, Grants Shabnam Autonomy

According to local reports, Shabnam and Shiv's relationship caused tensions between the two families, prompting a community Panchayat to intervene in the case. After a discussion with community elders, the Panchayat gave the verdict that Shabnam is free to live wherever she wishes to, following which, she officially divorced her second husband and moved in with Shiva.

Shabnam, originally married eight years ago in Said Nagli, is a mother of three daughters. Her second husband reportedly suffered injuries in a road accident about a year ago, which left him physically disabled. During this time, she grew closer to Shiva, a teenager from the same locality. The couple eventually decided to formalise their relationship by marrying at a temple.

Shabnam's Previous Relationships

This is Shabnam’s third marriage. Her first marriage was reportedly in Aligarh, which ended before she settled in Said Nagli and married again. After her second divorce, she chose to start a new life with Shiva. The children from her previous marriage continue to live with her ex-husband.

The couple added that they are adults and have taken the decision within their legal rights, seeking only privacy and peace in their new life together.
