New Delhi: After years of waiting, the hunt for the new Dayaben in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah might finally be over! Ever since Disha Vakani left the sitcom in 2018 for maternity leave, fans have been hoping for her return.

However, creator Asit Modi made it clear earlier this year that Disha is not coming back. Now, fresh updates suggest that the makers have found their new Daya, and mock shoots are already in progress. Scroll down to read the details!

New Dayaben in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah?

According to a report by News18, a source close to the production spilled the beans and revealed that Asit has finally zeroed in on an actress for the role of Jethalal’s ever-enthusiastic wife. While the identity of the actor is still under wraps, the source confirmed that she has been testing for the role for about a week now.

“Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us,” the insider shared.

With the character being an audience favourite, the pressure to get the casting right is immense. Dayaben’s over-the-top laughter, quirky Gujarati catchphrases, and vibrant personality made her one of the most beloved figures in Indian television. Whoever steps into her shoes will have big expectations to meet.

Asit Modi on Disha Vakani's Return

Back in January, Asit spoke openly about Disha’s absence, sharing that her priorities had changed. “She has two children now. She is like my sister, and we still share a close bond with her family. But for women, life changes after marriage, and managing work with small kids is not easy,” he had said. Despite holding on to hope for her return, Asit eventually acknowledged that a recast was necessary. “If she comes back, it will be wonderful. If not, I have to bring in another Dayaben.”
