While on duty as an analyst for ITV, Keane reviewed the revised England team ahead of their Monday evening clash with Latvia at Wembley Stadium.

Tuchel, fresh from a 2-0 victory over Albania, introduced four new faces, including Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, making his inaugural England start after three appearances off the bench.

Reece James, Marc Guehi, and Jarrod Bowen also stepped into the lineup as Tuchel explored other avenues.

Exiting the team were Kyle Walker, Dan Burn, Curtis Jones, and Phil Foden, while Marcus Rashford kept his spot despite Tuchel's own critical comments post-Albania match. Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly held onto his left-back position as well.

In pre-match discussions, Mark Pougatch prompted Keane, alongside Ian Wright, to discuss the merits of squad rotation and whether it's a chance for managers to assess different players or provide rest for key talents.

Keane entertained with his response, stating: "I'm a great believer in squad rotation. I believed in that as a player... but once I played..."

He sparked laughter from Mark Pougatch and Ian Wright with his quip as the former asked: "You didn't believe it?"

Keane added: "No, not in my position. You can rotate everybody else!

"Look, I see the bigger picture. But, what Ian just said, you do enough that you can't leave me out. You rotate the others, not me!"

One player who retained his midfield position and marked his sixth anniversary as a senior England international was Declan Rice.

Speaking before the match about his six-year milestone, the Arsenal midfielder stated: "I've grown so much as a player and as a person in that time.

"Six years ago, I recall ex-pros who have now retired, telling me when I was at West Ham, 'Dec, enjoy your career because it goes so quick'.

"It's just taught me to cherish every moment. To play for England is the biggest thing you can do and it's been one of the best journeys I've ever had.

"With Thomas now and this new era, there's still so much more to come and you're going to keep seeing the best of us."
