fans have been left with burning questions about the Starz fantasy series during its off-air period, leading many to re-watch the epic tale.

One of the most pressing queries is why Frank Randall (portrayed by Tobias Menzies) chose to remain with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) after she returned from the past.

The reunion between Claire and Frank was depicted in the season two opener, Through A Glass, Darkly, before the narrative shifted to Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and his wife's efforts to alter history in Paris.

Frank was left devastated and seething with anger upon discovering that Claire was carrying another man's child.

There was a moment when it seemed as though Frank was about to hit her, with Claire protecting her pregnant belly from him, reports the .

A tense exchange of glares occurred between Frank and Claire, with the 20th-century nurse standing firm against her once loving husband, seeing reflections of his cruel ancestor Captain Jonathan 'Black Jack' Randall (also played by Menzies) in his gaze.

However, instead of striking her, Frank vented his fury on Reverend Wakefield's (James Fleet) garden shed and tools.

Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore addressed this pivotal moment and Frank's decision to stay with Claire despite her infidelity on the Outlander podcast, stating: "I love Frank and I have an affinity with the character. He's trying to live up to the mission statement that he gave in episode 101."

In the electrifying first episode of Outlander, Frank professed to Claire that even infidelity during their separation in World War II wouldn't diminish his love, declaring his willingness to forgive because of his deep affection.

Moore mused about the depth of Frank's admission, highlighting it as an assertion of undying devotion with the observation: "my love for you is eternal".

Moore found intrigue in Frank's unwavering declaration, remarking: "And that's a pretty big thing for people to say. When people usually say those things they don't really mean it, and I kinda like the idea that Frank really meant it and this has really put that to the test."

Post confrontation over Claire's pregnancy, Moore revealed how Frank's return was on his own conditions, saying he would stay with Claire but on "his terms".

The executive producer admired this direction, noting: "I really like that. It was a really interesting place to take the character."

Delving deeper into Frank's complex nature, Moore praised his inherent goodness, expressing: "Any guy that's willing to take her back after she's been gone for two years and she's pregnant, and agrees to raise that child as his own, has some kind of extraordinary moral courage - or at least some kind of intent about how much he loves this woman and how much he wants to live up to a certain idea of who he is."

Championing the storyline, Moore asserted: "So, I was fascinated with Frank and this was really an opportunity to go for it."

Outlander season 7 is available to buy now on Digital and is streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video now
