The new Netflix smash hit Adolescence is a 4-part mini series that is receiving a lot of love and attention from all over the world for its technical brilliance, unique storytelling, single-take episodes and some of the best performances.

The show’s star Stephen Graham who is also the co-creator and co-writer expected Adolescence to be a success in the UK, the home country of the show, he was quite surprised by it blowing up in India.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stephen Graham opened up about the runaway success of the show and said, “I got a text from a mate of mine, telling me how big Adolescence is in India.”

He added, “And my first response was, ‘Hold on… did you say India? Did I hear you correctly?’ Apparently, it’s really striking a nerve there. But it just seems to have struck a nerve in a lot of places! The thing you have to understand, when we set out to do this… it was very colloquial. But it’s like we dropped a stone into this pond, and the ripple effect it’s produced has been unbelievable.”

Adolescence is trending at number two in India on Netflix and has received accolades and love from several celebrities including Alia Bhatt, Anurag Kashyap and Hansal Mehta etc.

Alia Bhatt took to Instagram and wrote, “This show is truly perfection… From the writing to the staging to the EXCEPTIONAL cinematography - I wonder what it felt like when after an hour of calling action - to finally calling cut… how did the entire cast and crew feel???? (sic)”

She added, “The performances by each and every person that has walked into frame and out was ALIVE.. real raw and so so hot at the moment that the energy is very very palpable! & so moving. The magic of storytelling and an entire crew coming together to deliver, every department giving nothing but their heart and soul to every second on screen. I’m in awe (sic).”

The show is directed by Philip Barantini and its official synopsis reads, “When a 13-year-old is accused of the murder of a classmate, his family, therapist and the detective in charge are all left asking: what really happened?”
