, the FOX NFL Sunday and Pittsburgh Steelers legend, has announced his plans to retire while at the .

The 76-year-old, who is set to work on Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans alongside colleagues Michael Strahan and Rob Gronkowski, revealed he is targeting the 2029 Super Bowl for his retirement.

Despite having two more years left on his contract with FOX, Bradshaw expressed his desire to reach Super Bowl LXIII at the age of 80 before stepping back. The former Steelers quarterback shared that he had a candid discussion with his wife about his retirement plans.

He told : "I told my wife before I left the room a while ago, I'm sitting there... I said, 'I've got two years left at FOX. I'm 76. Okay, so it's a young man's game. I get that'' Everybody wants the new..."

Bradshaw attempted to point at Gronkowski as an example of the 'new', only to realise he was pointing at Howie Long instead. After being informed of his mistake, Bradshaw joked: "That's where he'll always be, behind me!"

He then continued to outline his retirement plan, stating: "And so I said, 'If we can get to the next Super Bowl, I'll be 80. That's... I think that's time'. 80 years old, that's pushing it!"

Bradshaw's television career dates back to 1980 when he spent two years as a commentator for CBS. However, his big break came in 1994 when an appearance as an analyst convinced FOX executives that he was the right man for the job.

David Hill, a FOX Sports executive at the time, said: "I knew Greg Gumbel but not the guy sitting next to him. He stood up from the desk and walked across the studio to a screen to diagram a play, but it wasn't really a walk or a strut. It was a confident stride of someone who was totally at home in front of the camera.

He added: "I knew exactly what I wanted for the FOX Sports pregame show. To find out he was Terry Bradshaw was a bit of a shock, but he was the perfect television personality because, with him, you always expected the unexpected."

In recent years, Bradshaw has faced calls from viewers to retire, but he has always remained steadfast in the face of criticism. In fact, Bradshaw even joked that he would like to die while on air.

He admitted: "I told FOX: 'If I could just die on the show, think about the ratings, right? Are we not about ratings? That'd be huge. Not only that, there would be a huge carryover'," he said to Denver Sports 104.3.

"Then all the networks would be saying 'Bradshaw died on FOX NFL Sunday. Huge stuff, and then maybe I get a statue out front'. But if I can keep my health together, I love what I'm doing. But we all get old and we're going to get kicked out. I'm not looking over my shoulder, but [Tom] Brady is coming in for $37.5million."
