Google Pay Introduces a Family-Friendly Payment Feature

Digital payments in India are evolving rapidly, and Google Pay has taken another big step forward. The platform has introduced a new feature called “UPI Circle”, allowing users to let family members—including children—make payments from their account.

This feature is designed to make UPI transactions more flexible while ensuring strong control and security for the primary account holder.

What Is ‘UPI Circle’ and How Does It Work?

The UPI Circle feature allows a primary user to delegate payment access

to trusted individuals like children, parents, or employees.

There are two types of users:

  • Primary User: The person whose bank account is linked to Google Pay

  • Secondary User: A dependent who can make payments using the primary user’s account

Once linked, the secondary user can initiate UPI payments, but the primary user retains full control over spending and permissions.

Key Control and Security Features

Google Pay has ensured that safety remains a priority with this feature. Users can choose between two control modes:

1. Full Delegation

  • Set a monthly spending limit (up to ₹15,000)

  • Secondary user can make payments freely within this limit

  • No approval required for every transaction

2. Partial Delegation

  • Every payment request must be approved by the primary user

  • Ideal for tighter monitoring and control

  • Suitable for children or first-time users

Who Can Use This Feature?

The feature is especially useful for:

  • Parents managing children’s expenses

  • Families sharing household payments

  • Employers managing small staff expenses

It eliminates the need for separate bank accounts for dependents while maintaining financial discipline.

Important Conditions Before Setup

Before enabling UPI Circle, keep these points in mind:

  • You can add up to 5 secondary users

  • The secondary user’s number must be saved in your contacts

  • They must have Google Pay installed on their phone

  • Transactions require a valid UPI ID or QR code

How to Set Up UPI Circle

Setting up the feature is simple:

  • Open Google Pay

  • Go to the UPI Circle section

  • Select the contact or scan their QR code

  • Choose delegation type (full or partial)

  • Set spending limits and permissions

  • Once completed, the secondary user can start making payments instantly.

    Why This Feature Matters

UPI Circle reflects a shift toward shared and controlled digital finance. It brings multiple benefits:

    • Simplifies payments for dependents

    • Enhances financial control for families

    • Promotes responsible spending habits

    • Expands UPI usage beyond individual accounts

    Final Takeaway

Google Pay’s UPI Circle feature is a major step toward making digital payments more inclusive and family-friendly. By allowing controlled access to dependents, it balances convenience with security.

As UPI continues to dominate India’s payment ecosystem, such innovations are likely to redefine how families manage and share finances digitally.
