New Expressway: A big update has come out regarding Gorakhpur-Panipat Expressway. Now this expressway will be extended till Kushinagar district. According to the proposal, this expressway will be built for about 3 to 4 kilometers length in Kushinagar, from where it will be directly connected to Siliguri Expressway. After this expansion, the total length of the expressway will increase to about 750 kilometers.
With the connection of both the expressways, a direct four-lane road will be available from Siliguri to Panipat. This will not only make traffic easier between Purvanchal, Western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, but will also give a big boost to trade, industry and logistics. This corridor will directly connect 22 districts of UP and Haryana.
Initially this expressway was proposed from Gorakhpur to Shamli. Later it was decided to extend it till Panipat. Now, under another important decision, work has started on the plan to connect it with Siliguri Expressway in the limits of Kushinagar. For this, alignment work is going on at a fast pace.
According to NHAI, the alignment work will be completed and the design will be ready by next month. Siliguri Expressway will come near Jagdishpur-Koni in Gorakhpur border, but due to lack of space there, there is a plan to connect Panipat Expressway near Khurhuria-Balua village.
This entire project will be developed as a greenfield expressway, due to which cutting of trees will be kept to a minimum. According to departmental officials, this road will pass through about 21 villages in Kushinagar, while 46 villages in Gorakhpur will come under its purview. Change in the number of villages is possible after the alignment is decided.
The land acquisition process will be started soon and construction work is expected to start in 2026.
According to NHAI project director Lalit Pratap Pal, “Panipat-Gorakhpur Expressway will now be extended up to Kushinagar district. The alignment will be completed by February. The width of the four-lane will be 60 meters in some places and 70 meters in some places.”
