Kajol is back on screen and this time around, it's a mythological horror movie. The film has got some rave reviews so far and people are loving the film's horror sequences, VFX. However, it's seems like it will have a slow start at the box office. But one hopes that through positive word of mouth, the collections grow over the weekend. 'Maa' is facing competition from ' Sitaare Zameen Par ' in Hindi and ' Kannapa ' in the south.

'Maa' is clashing with two other big releases, 'Kannapa' and also the Hollywood release, 'F1' starring Brad Pitt which is getting a good response. Meanwhile Rekha's 'Umrao Jaan' has also re-released so it's a pack Friday at the box office. According to Sacnilk, till Friday evening, 'Maa' had has made Rs 3.7 crore. Up till the same time, the collection of 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is Rs 5.4 crore. So, one can say that the Aamir Khan starrer does have an edge at the moment over 'Maa' despite being on day 8. Meanwhile, F1 has made Rs 3.24 crore till the same time.
The collection of 'Kannapa' till Friday evening stood at Rs 5.37 crore.
Now which film finally holds more over the others, the upcoming weekend will tell. But according to Box Office India, even if 'Maa' makes Rs 4 crore on the opening day, it will be a good number considering the competition it's facing.
