The West Indies is giving tough competition to the Indian cricket team by dropping at least four catches on Day 1 in the first Test against Australia at Bridgetown. Despite that, the Guyanese pacer Shamar Joseph managed four wickets and was on the edge of taking the fifth until a bizarre decision ended the hope. It happened when Travis Head was batting at 48 and Shamar bowled a short and wide delivery in the 46th over. Head swirled his bat and the keeper, Shai Hope, took a low catch.
Shamar made a light appeal, and Nitin Menon, the on-field umpire, went for a check after a short on-field discussion among the players. And here came the confusion. There was no issue with the contact, as there was a clear spike at the ultraedge when the ball passed the bat, indicating that the ball did touch the bat.
However, the confusion rose with the catch. It was a low catch. And the third umpire, Adrian Holdstock, found that the ball might have dropped before reaching Hope's gloves. However, apparently it looked like Hope's Index and middle finger were somewhat under the ball before it bumped into his palms.
