Pandharpur Wari Yatra 2025: In a spiritual moment for Maharashtra, the holy palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj are set to reach Pune today, June 20. These processions, a cornerstone of the Warkari tradition, draw lakhs of devotees each year, transforming the city into a vibrant hub of devotion, music, and unity.

The palkhi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj began its journey from Dehu, while the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palkhi set out from Alandi — each carrying the sacred padukas (sandals) of the saints and centuries of legacy.

Traffic Restrictions Begin Before Dawn

To accommodate the massive wave of devotees and ensure uninterrupted civic services, Pune Traffic Police, along with the Pune Municipal Corporation and other key departments, has rolled out a city-wide traffic and parking plan. Restrictions took effect at 2:00 AM today and will remain in place until the palkhis exit Pune city limits.

Authorities have mobilized multiple agencies to manage the crowds and maintain order, prioritizing both safety and seamless movement for the procession.

Major Road Closures And Diversions Announced

As the palkhis make their way through Pune, several major roads have been temporarily shut. Motorists are being directed to alternate routes to avoid congestion and ensure the pilgrims' safe passage.

Here’s a breakdown of the key closures:

  • Kalas Phata to Bopkhel Phata: Traffic redirected through Dhanori.

  • Mental Hospital Corner to Alandi Junction: Detours established.

  • Jail Road and Airport Road: Completely closed to regular traffic.

  • Sadlababa Chowk to Patil Estate, and Parnakuti Chowk to Garrison Engineer Square: Routes blocked; alternate access via Khadki Market Church recommended.

  • Bremen Chowk, Aundh Road, Poultry Farm Square: Closed with diversions in effect.

  • Old Mumbai-Pune Road: Entry into the city limited up to Engineering College Chowk. Key stretches like Bapu Patil Road, Aundh Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Ghole Road, and Apte Road are shut, with reroutes through Deccan Traffic Division and Thopte Path Chowk.

Heavy Vehicles Banned On Palkhi Routes

To minimise disruption, heavy vehicles are barred from all primary palkhi pathways. Diversion signboards have been strategically placed at major entry points, including:

  • Entry Points: Vishrantwadi, Shivajinagar, Bopodi, Swargate

  • Exit Routes: Kharadi Bypass, Hadapsar, Phursungi, Katraj

Officials have urged logistics operators, truck drivers, and commercial transport services to comply with the diversion plan to avoid penalties and reduce road congestion.

The arrival of the palkhis in Pune isn't just a religious occasion—it's a deeply emotional event that unites people across generations and geographies. As chants fill the air and Warkaris walk in unison, the city pauses to reflect, participate, and support a tradition that has stood the test of time.
