Finding time to eat a good breakfast isn't always easy. Even in the age of working from home, I often find myself too busy or distracted to eat in the mornings, resorting to having a or a snack instead.

I know this is far from ideal, so earlier this year I made a pact with myself to try and eat a good breakfast every day. My go-to is usually some form of yoghurt, fruit and berries concoction - until I tried this viral I'd been seeing all over . These sticky toffee oats, created by , are about to become your new breakfast obsession.

Elle has been posting vegan recipes on TikTok for a while now, and has racked up more than 265,000 followers because of it. Earlier this year she went viral for her plant-based 'snickers bites', but now, it's all about the sticky toffee oats.

I've seen her videos all over my feed, and I've seen other creators try out her recipe, and they've all had nothing but good things to say. So I tried it for myself, and it's safe to say the hype is real.

I had never bought dates before, but they'll be a firm fixture on my weekly shopping list from now on. They're so delicious, and add a natural sweetness to the dish. Paired with the sticky toffee sauce, this recipe is truly to die for. Here's how to make it.

Sticky toffee oats

Ingredients - for the oats

  • Half a mug of oats

  • One mug of milk

  • Two dates, chopped

  • Dash of cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • Tbsp chia or flax seeds

  • Tbsp maple syrup

For the sauce

  • Two tbsp nut butter

  • Two tbsp maple syrup

  • Splash of milk

  • Dash of cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

Method

First, make the sauce. Mix all of the ingredients together except the milk, and keep on adding small splashes at a time until you reach the consistency you want. Elle said you'll want to eat this with a spoon like soup, and she's absolutely right - it's so delicious. This made enough for a huge portion, so keep it in the fridge and use it as a dip for fruit.

Then, get started on the oats. Put all of the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over a low heat, stirring constantly until it's nice and thick.

You can also mix all of the ingredients together and chill in the fridge overnight if you want to eat them cold.

When they're done, put the oats in a bowl and top with some extra dates, and then that gorgeous sauce. This literally tasted like eating a decadent dessert for breakfast, and is perfect if you've got a sweet tooth.
