The Government of India is going to make the census to be held in 2027 completely digital. The special thing is that this time for the first time in the census, data related to castes will also be collected. In this process, mobile apps, digital platforms, and new technologies will be used, so that data collection can be faster, more accurate, and transparent.

Data will be recorded in the mobile app.

The government will use a special mobile app for the census, which will be available in 16 languages. Enumerators will collect data through this app, as well as citizens will also get the option to fill in the information themselves.

This process of census will start with the preparation of the list of houses in 2026 and will be completed with the population count in February 2027.

Processing and reporting will be faster.
Data processing will become much faster with the digital census. It is estimated that the final report will be prepared in just 9 months. The mobile app will have smart features like a dropdown menu, coded questions, and 'fetch', which will avoid data duplication and reduce errors.

Apart from this, unorganized answers can also be processed with the help of ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition) technology.

Special portal for monitoring
The government is also creating a monitoring portal to keep an eye on the entire process. This will enable real-time monitoring of every stage and maintain transparency.
