The day of Mahashivaratri is considered important in Hinduism. On this day, devotees worship and fast to please Lord Mahadev. Not only this, devotees throng to the Shiva temples on Mahashivaratri. There are many ancient temples of Mahadev across the country, but today we are going to tell you about the Shiva temple of Lord Shiva located in Prayagraj which is situated in the middle of the Yamuna River. Yes, here we are talking about Sujavan Dev Temple of Prayagraj.

Mother Yamuna is worshiped with Lord Shiva in Sujavan Dev Temple. Thus, devotees keep visiting this temple throughout the year. But on Mahashivaratri, a different shade of this temple is seen. It is said that by coming to this temple, worshiping the devotees fulfills the wishes of the devotees. There are many beliefs about the Sujavan Dev Temple, but the story of its origin is also unique. It is believed that before the British rule, there was no information about the Sujavan Dev Temple.

If you are in Prayagraj on the occasion of Mahashivaratri, then you can go to visit Sujavan Dev Temple. Sujavan Dev Temple is located about 25 km from Prayagraj Junction railway station. At the same time, the distance from Triveni Sangam to Sujavan Dev Temple is 27 kilometers. Ramraj Patel, a resident of Jasrath Chittori of Prayagraj, has told us about reaching Sujavan Dev Temple from Triveni Sangam.

To go from Triveni Sangam to Sujavan Dev Temple, you must first come to Civil Lines. You have to reach Naini and then Ghurpur market from Civil Lines. On going inside 3 kilometers from Ghurpur intersection, you will find a village named Deoria, where the Sujavan Dev Temple is located on the banks of river Yamuna. Sujavan Dev Temple is built at a height of about 150 feet from the ground. Earlier this temple was located in the middle of the Yamuna River, but it is now located on the coast due to mining and water level. But still the boat has to be resorted to to reach the temple during flood days.

According to the information, during the time of Shah Jahan in the year 1645, Shaista Khan was the Subedar of Allahabad and he broke the Sujavan Dev Temple and organized a gambling meeting there. However, the Hindus opposed it and attacked the meeting and rebuilt the temple. Then the idol of Lord Shiva was installed in the temple. There is a belief about the Sujavan Dev temple of Praryagraj that Yamraj came to this place to meet his sister Yamuna and asked him to ask for a boon. Then Yamuna asked for a boon and said that whoever takes a bath here on the day of Bhaiya Dooj, will have no fear of death and he will get a place in heaven. Yamraj gave a boon to his sister Yamuna. According to this belief, every year after Deepawali, a huge fair is held on Bhaiya Dooj and devotees come to the Yamuna coast and donate lamps.
