New Delhi: On the account of Shab-e-Barat and Panchanan Barma Jayanti, the government of West Bengal has announced holidays for February 13 and February 14. All state-run offices, schools and institutions will remain closed on both days in the state.

Moreover, February 15 is Saturday and February 16 is Sunday so government offices and schools will have an extended four-day break.

Shab-e-Barat falls on the 15th night of the Islamic month of Sha’ban which is believed to be a night of forgiveness. On this day, people following Islam offer prayers, seek blessings and remember their ancestors.

As per an official notice released earlier, the government declared a holiday for February 14, to celebrate Shab-e-Barat, however, later the date of the festival was confirmed to be February 13. The holiday on February 14 to marks the birth anniversary of Thakur Panchanan Barma remains unchanged.

Telangana school holiday

The Telangana government has also announced a holiday for schools to observe Shab-e-Barat. However, for some schools, February 14 is an optional holiday. On February 15 as well schools will remain closed for the birth anniversary of Sant Sewalal Maharaj.

Schools in several states across the country including Delhi, Punjab and Haryana observed a holiday today to mark the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji. Every year on Maghi Purnima, Guru Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated to honour the saint and social reformer.

The closure of schools on these occasions is an opportunity for students to delve into the rich history and culture. This is a way to honour the legacy and reflect the values.
