New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Parliament that more than Rs 1 lakh crore is lying unspent balance with the state governments as of 31st December 2024. The huge amount of money was given by the central government to the states for spending on development and various social welfare programmes.
The Finance Minister informed in the Lok Sabha that the state governments had a balance of more than Rs 1 lakh crore. According to the expenditure details presented with the Budget 2025, state governments have not spent a large part of the amount allotted for schemes like PM Awas Yojana and MNREGA.
FM Nirmala Sitharaman gave detailed information about the unspent money by the state governments on her social media account ‘X’.
