Meta, Google, Microsoft partner to combat cyber threats in India

Tech giants such as Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Airtel have come together with New Delhi-based policy advocacy group Safer Internet India (SII) to form the coalition.


The group was formed to fight cyber threats and promote responsible artificial intelligence (AI) use.


Vodafone Idea, Truecaller, Boom, Dream Sports, Fortinet, Zupee Newschecker and Shiprocket are other members of the initiative.

Coalition goals




The main goal of the SII coalition is to tackle the increasing cases of frauds and scams, a side effect of India's increasing digital adoption.


The group intends to carry out information sharing, awareness campaigns, and sharing of best practices.


Public policy firm Koan Advisory Group will serve as the secretariat for this coalition. However, SII has not revealed details of its organizational structure.

Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy at Meta India, stressed the seriousness of online scams and fraudulent activities.


He noted that tackling these problems calls for "concrete and cooperative measures across the ecosystem, led by the industry."


Thukral also noted that the Safer Internet India coalition is an important step in enabling cross-industry collaboration to shield Indians from emerging online threats.




Microsoft's commitment to safer internet

Jyoti Pawar, Group General Counsel at Microsoft India and South Asia, emphasized India's leading position in GenAI adoption.


She said 65% of respondents in the Microsoft Global Online Safety Survey 2025 have used GenAI, more than double the global average.


Pawar confirmed Microsoft's commitment to making the internet a safer and more secure space for all through advanced technologies and innovative solutions.
