Rejections are success are part and parcel of every industry. Several scripts are written everyday. sometime the directors get the desired actors sometimes fluke work magic and sometimes things just be. This is one such film of many that was rejected by likes of Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan. While late actor Rishi Kapoor initially refused it ridiculing the screen time he eventually agreed to become a part of it.

Rom-coms have a way to resonate with people. It will give you the comic relief and also the wholesome love stories. A larger than life story on screen is like an escape from reality. Every decade witnesses a notable film that has good story groovy songs good performance and hit on box office. Hum Tum joins the ranks of such films. This was a major blockbuster of the decade. Released in 2005 the movie stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji along with Rishis Kapoor Kirron Kher among others. Abhishek Bachchan also had a cameo in the story.
Why Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan Refused This Film?
In an old interview director Kunal Kohli revealed what exactly transpired with Roshan and Khan before Saif Ali Khan was offered the role. Speaking with Indian Express he shared Hrithik loved the script. He said ‘I am not confident of the films I am doing right now I don’t know how many of them will work or what will happen to them and I don’t know whether I am in the right frame of mind to do this.’ He said to wait for a couple of his films to release and then let’s take a call. But Adi (Aditya) felt it would be too long to wait for two years see how his films fare and then decide so he suggested we let this go. Because even Hrithik wasn’t sure if he will do it he was very honest that he is not sure if he is right for this space.

According to Kohli Aamir Khan was amid the turmoil of his divorce with Reena and expressed hi unavailability and unsuitability for a rom-com at that moment.  I don’t remember if we approached him before or after Hrithik. But Aamir was going through his divorce with Reena and told us ‘I am not even in that frame of mind right now. It is a rom-com I am not sure I will give it a miss.’ It was after this when Kunal Kohli and Aditya Chopra quickly agreed on Saif Ali Khan an established and bankable star at that time and realised how he gelled with the character.
When Rishi Kapoor Called it Bakwas
In a recent interview with Aleena Dissects Kunal shared When I narrated the role to Rishi Kapoor he said I am not doing this. Guest appearance hai mujhe nahi karna kya hai? Bakwas hai. Saat toh scene diye tune mereko nahi karna mujhe (It’s just a guest appearance. I don’t want to do this. Nonsense. You gave me just seven scenes I don’t want to).

However after Kunal  explained the importance and essence of the scenes narrating it par by part the late actor agreed for it.
