With a preview of a “never-seen-before” lighthearted interview involving former India captain Virat Kohli and head coach Gautam Gambhir, who have teamed up to “put an end to all the masala” surrounding their long-rumored feud, the BCCI set the internet on fire on Wednesday.

Together, Kohli and Gambhir have represented Team India in a variety of forms. They have had many high-profile on-field altercations in the past, most notably in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which garnered media attention.

“A Very Special Interview,” said the caption BCCI posted beside a preview of an interview on X. Watch this space for an in-depth look at the workings of brilliant cricket brains. Head coach of Team India @GautamGambhir and @imVkohli have an unprecedentedly frank conversation.”

They have put their prior grudges aside now that they are teammates and coaches for the Indian team and share a dressing room. With over 185,000 views, Virat’s one-minute, forty-second video clip remarked, “We have come along way to put an end to all the masala.”

With a giggle, Gambhir said, “That’s a good start to the conversation.”

Kohli and Gambhir were seen talking about their on-field altercations with rival players in a video.

When Gambhir gets into a confrontation with a player on the pitch, Kohli questions him about the zone he enters. “When you are batting and you have a bit of a chat with the opposition, did you ever feel like this might carry on to you going out of the zone and potentially getting out, or it put you in a more motivated state?” Gambhir was questioned by Kohli.

With a cheeky response, the head coach of India said, “You have been in more altercations than I have.” I believe you are more qualified than I am to respond to that query.”

“Mainly, that dog is barking at you; that koi meri baat se agree kar jaye. It’s not like that at all. Yeh hota hai, koi to bole haan (I’m only seeking approval). I’m not saying it’s incorrect. With a giggle, Virat said, “Yes, this is what happens. I want someone to say that.”

Gambhir also gave Kohli credit for his outstanding Border-Gavaskar Trophy batting performance in 2014–15. “I recall the fantastic series you had against Australia, when you amassed an enormous amount of runs and entered the touch zone. And when I played in Napier, it was exactly the same for me.

“And can I bat for two and a half more days if I turn around? Not in my opinion. I never could have repeated it. And after that, I never again experienced that state of being in my life. I can thus picture how wonderful it feels to be in that zone. And compared to what I have experienced, I’m sure you must have gone through this a lot more often,” Gambhir said.
