Ranchi: The total rainfall during this year's monsoon in Jharkhand from 1 June 2024 to 18 September 2024 was 936.9 mm, which is 1% less than the normal 944.5 mm. Many districts of the state received more than normal rainfall, but due to lack of rain in some districts, drought conditions are seen developing.

Major districts where heavy rain occurred

Districts like Garhwa (27%), Dhanbad (35%), Latehar (23%), and Ranchi (20%) have recorded above normal rainfall this year. Garhwa recorded 1083.5 mm of rain, while Dhanbad received 1318 mm of rain.

where rainfall is less than normal

Districts like Chatra (-26%), Deoghar (-32%), Sahibganj (-23%), and Pakur (-50%) have witnessed severe deficit. Pakur in particular recorded only 538.1 mm of rain, which is half the normal. Agriculture in these districts is likely to be severely affected.

The state has received normal rainfall so far, but there is concern due to drought in some districts. Experts believe that if the lack of rain continues in the coming days, it may have a negative impact on farmers and water level. However, big cities like Ranchi and Dhanbad will not have to face water crisis in summer due to more than normal rainfall.
