“Happy birthday to @surya_14kumar, our T20I captain and Mr. 360 at the bat! In the shortest format, I can’t wait to see you lead the Men in Blue to more triumphs. Warmest regards for the next year! wrote Shah using the account ‘X’.

In the T20 World Cup final this year at Kensington Oval in Barbados, Suryakumar—who also held the top ranking in the men’s T20I rankings—erased himself forever into cricketing legend with his incredible relay catch at long-off of David Miller. This eventually cleared the way for India to end an 11-year drought of winning a global title.

On the right-handed batter’s birthday, Devisha Shetty, Suryakumar’s spouse, also sent a meaningful message on her Instagram account. “Happy birthday to my world, my spouse, my lover, my closest friend, and the wisest choice I’ve ever made! I’m grateful for you every day. I’m not sure what I would do without you; you improve this planet tremendously. love you forever and ever,” she wrote.

Though his career in ODI and Test cricket hasn’t quite reached such heights yet, Suryakumar has cemented himself as one of the greatest T20I batting players since making his international debut in 2021. Suryakumar missed the current Duleep Trophy since he was sidelined after a hand injury he received during Mumbai’s game against TNCA XI at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore.

In terms of international cricket, Suryakumar will return to play as India’s captain for three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) against Bangladesh, which are scheduled for October 6, 9, and 12 at Gwalior, New Delhi, and Hyderabad, respectively. When Bangladesh last visited India, it was for a three-match T20I series that they lost 2-1.
