What happens if PAN is not linked with Aadhaar?

  • Higher TDS: Tax deducted at source (TDS) may be charged at a higher applicable rate.

  • Higher TCS: Tax collected at source (TCS) may also be charged at a higher applicable rate.

  • Blocked Income Tax Returns (ITR): You will be unable to file fresh income tax returns or get your pending or under-processing returns processed.

What should you do if PAN-Aadhaar linking fails?

1. Name or date of birth mismatch

If your name, date of birth or other personal details do not match across PAN and Aadhaar records, the linking request may fail. Check both documents and get the incorrect details corrected through the respective official channels before trying again.

2. Payment not reflecting on the portal

If you have already paid the applicable fee but the portal displays a payment-related error, wait for four to five working days before submitting the request again.
