DEHRADUN: Japan's ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi , visited the John Martyn Memorial School in the Salangaon area of Dehradun on Tuesday. The school serves children from humble backgrounds.

The ambassador was accompanied by Aftab Seth, former Indian ambassador to Japan and chairman of the John Martyn Memorial Trust, and Japanese interpreter Nanami Kakuta. They were welcomed by principal Anu Ahuja, managing trustee Rahul Gupta , staff and students.

The visitors toured the campus and interacted with students, observing the school's academic and vocational training programmes, including computer education, stitching, art and craft, and loom work. The highlight of the visit came when students performed on the tabla.

Visibly delighted, Keiichi sat down at the instrument himself, much to the joy of the children, and tried his hand at playing a few beats. A communique from the school said the ambassador praised its mission of providing quality education and life skills to help children become self-reliant and confident.
