Stomach heaviness and gas problem

When people enjoy delicious food during festivals or special family occasions, sometimes they overeat. This can result in problems like heaviness in the stomach, gas, belching and bloating. This is called bloating. To get relief from this condition, eating slowly, limiting the quantity of food and taking a light walk after eating can be beneficial. Additionally, drinks made from common household ingredients like cumin, celery, fennel and ginger may also provide relief to some people. However, it is important to keep in mind that home remedies do not have the same effect on everyone and should not be considered a cure for any serious disease.

1. Mixture of cumin, celery and black pepper

Cumin and celery are traditionally used when experiencing heaviness in the stomach. For this, lightly roast and grind four to five black peppers along with a small amount of cumin and celery. Some black salt can be added to it for taste. A small amount of this mixture can be taken with food. However, black pepper and spices may increase acidity or irritation in some people, so do not use them if you have discomfort. People with high blood pressure or advised to limit salt should also reduce black salt.

2. Be careful while using asafoetida

Asafoetida is used in Indian kitchen to enhance the taste of pulses and vegetables. Among traditional home remedies, it is considered to provide relief from stomach gas. But there is no solid scientific evidence that mixing asafoetida in water and applying it on the navel can relieve bloating. Therefore, instead of considering it as a sure cure, it is better to include it in food in normal quantities. Limit your intake of asafoetida, especially if you are allergic to it or have a specific medical condition. It is advisable to consult a doctor before giving any home remedy to small children.

3. Lukewarm drink of fenugreek seeds and fennel

Fenugreek seeds and fennel are traditionally used for digestive problems. To make this, add half teaspoon fenugreek seeds and half teaspoon fennel in a cup of water and boil for a few minutes. Then filter the water and drink it slowly when it becomes lukewarm. It is not necessary to add salt to it. Keep in mind that fenugreek may cause gas or stomach discomfort in some people and may interact with some medications. If you take regular medications, seek medical advice before using it continuously.

4. Lemon and cumin water

A drink can be prepared by mixing roasted cumin powder in water. If you want, you can also add some lemon juice and some mint leaves for taste. This drink can help replenish fluids, but is not guaranteed to eliminate bloating immediately. Those who suffer from acidity or heartburn, the problem may increase with lemon. In such a situation, it is better to leave it.

5. Ginger and Lemon Tea

Ginger is used in many households during digestive discomfort. Put a small piece of ginger in a cup of water, boil it for a few minutes and then filter it. A small amount of lemon juice can be added for taste. You can drink it lukewarm, but if lemon or ginger increases the burning sensation then do not consume it. It is not a good idea to rely only on this drink when you have dysentery or persistent diarrhea.

Ways to avoid bloating

Chew food slowly, avoid overeating and take a light walk instead of lying down immediately after eating. Limit carbonated drinks and foods that make you gassy frequently. If flatulence is accompanied by severe pain, persistent vomiting, blood in the stool, fever, or complete absence of stool and gas, seek medical help immediately. Even if there is frequent bloating, it is important to get checked by a doctor.
