Ramgarh: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Friday performed customary rituals for his mother, Rupi Soren , at their ancestral village Nemra in Ramgarh district , a day after her cremation .




Dressed in a white dhoti and walking barefoot, he carried food on a fresh leaf to Nadi Darha Ghat and offered it in his mother’s name. Hemant and other family members performed the rites at their ancestral home and at the ghat in Nemra, under Gola block.




Rupi Soren (75), wife of late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren , died late on Wednesday at a private hospital in Ranchi due to age-related ailments. Her mortal remains were kept overnight at the family’s residence in Morabadi, Ranchi, for last viewing before being taken to Nemra on Thursday morning.




She was cremated at the same ghat where Shibu was cremated on Aug 4, 2025. The couple got married in 1962.




Rupi had stood by her husband during his struggle against the mahajani system, when he was forced to hide in forests and caves, and throughout the movement for a separate Jharkhand.




A large number of locals, party workers and leaders gathered in Nemra to pay their last respects. The district administration, led by deputy commissioner Rituraj, made arrangements for crowd management.




JMM’s Ramgarh unit said Hemant would remain in Nemra until all the rituals were completed.
