VASAI : A 51-year-old woman from Agashi in Virar died while undergoing treatment early Wednesday, a day after she was bitten by a venomous snake in the kitchen of her house.
Charlette Gonsalves was taken to three hospitals after the incident, but she could not be saved.
Gonsalves lived with her husband and two daughters in Somadi, Agashi, Virar West . Around 5 am on Tuesday, she entered the kitchen when the snake bit her.
However, the family initially did not realise that she had suffered a snakebite . Her family members administered first aid for around 30 minutes before taking her to a private hospital in Agashi.
She was later shifted to Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation’s hospital in Bolinj for further treatment. As her condition deteriorated, she was subsequently shifted to Sanjeevani Hospital in Virar.
She died at around 1.30am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
“We administered emergency treatment and gave her an injection when she was brought to our hospital.
However, as her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Sanjeevani Hospital,” said Dr Ashwini Mane, head of the civic hospital in Bolinj.
Gonsalves worked at Seabird Medical Centre in Andheri, where she was involved in arranging medical insurance for people working on ships.
Her unfortunate death has left residents of the Vasai-Virar area saddened.
