Kochi : An expert engineering team from NIT-Calicut on Friday inspected the Metro corridor along Sahodaran Ayyappan (SA) Road to find a permanent fix for dangerous, bumpy road surfaces.

The issue stems from the bitumen road settling around the rigid metro pillar pile caps . This uneven sinkage has exposed hard concrete bases, creating hazardous bumps three to four inches high that are difficult for drivers, especially two-wheeler riders, to spot at night.

The four-member team led by MVLR Anjaneyulu of the civil engineering department collected soil samples to study the cause of sinkage. “A detailed study will be conducted, and a report will be submitted to Kochi corporation within 15 days,” he said.

The corporation had carried out tarring of the stretch, but the road around the Metro pile caps sank again. This forced the corporation to seek study by experts.

Earlier, the high court intervened on the issue and directed the corporation to execute rectification measures along the 3.10km stretch between Vyttila Metro station and Manorama Junction within four months.
