Heavy rains lashed the country’s capital Delhi and the surrounding NCR region since Tuesday morning, so the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains with thunder and thundershowers for the next few hours. Incessant rains have led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the capital, causing morning office and school-goers to face horrendous traffic jams.

Heavy rain forecast in these areas of Delhi-NCR

According to the Meteorological Department, areas including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Sonipat, Panipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Hindon Air Force Station and Manesar are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain with lightning strikes in the next few hours. In view of severe rain conditions and traffic problems, the Gurugram administration has issued a special advisory for ‘work from home’ for all private offices and closure of schools on August 25.

Orange and yellow alert also in Kerala and Arunachal Pradesh

Apart from Delhi, the Meteorological Department has also declared orange and yellow alert in Kerala, South India. Heavy rains are forecast in Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts of Kerala during the next 24 hours. The system has asked people in areas prone to landslides and floods to remain alert and follow government guidelines.

On the other hand, the northeast state of Arunachal Pradesh is likely to continue with stormy rains till August 28. As many as 23 districts, including Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng and Changlang, have been issued a yellow alert for rain with heavy semi-storm.
