Jet2 has released further details regarding its forthcoming flights this month in a fresh social media statement today, May 6. The update follows growing passenger anxiety about their holidays amid the Middle East conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with reports suggesting potential issues with jet fuel.

While numerous airlines and government authorities have stated there are no immediate supply difficulties as of early May 2026, major carriers have started scrapping thousands of flights in advance to conserve fuel. Industry specialists and international bodies are cautioning that a "critical threshold" of genuine shortages could be reached within weeks, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining shut.

The Strait of Hormuz is crucial to the worldwide jet fuel supply. It functions as a key passage for the fuel and crude oil required for its processing, reports the Mirror.

UK and European Union (EU) officials maintain there are no immediate supply worries, with airlines claiming they have "good visibility" of fuel requirements for the next six to eight weeks. The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have warned that European fuel reserves could fall beneath critical thresholds by June 2026 unless alternative supply routes are secured.

Holidaymakers with bookings have been contacting airlines, including Jet2, seeking confirmation that their travel plans will not be disrupted. On X, one passenger with a flight scheduled for late May enquired about whether concern was warranted.

One worried traveller posted: "@Jet2tweets [I] go away on the 23rd what's the chances of our flights being cancelled?" The official Jet2 X account responded: "Hi Stephen, thank you for reaching out. Our flights are planned to go ahead as scheduled. If this was to change then our dedicated team would be in touch with you directly. Thanks, Gemma."

When contacted for comment, a Jet2 spokesperson said: "We remain in continual dialogue with our fuel suppliers, as is standard practice. Based on the conversations we have been having, we see no reason not to look forward to operating our scheduled programme of flights and holidays as normal."

They went on to say: "We understand that our customers work and save very hard for their holidays, and we are looking forward to making sure that they enjoy their award-winning flights and holidays with Jet2."

Jet2 has recently pledged not to impose surcharges on summer passengers amid soaring jet fuel costs. Chief executive Steve Heapy said: "Holidaymakers should have every right to book their hard-earned break in the sun, without worrying about being hit with additional costs.

"They can have that complete assurance when they book a flight or holiday with Jet2. Customers booking with Jet2 know that they are locking in their price without additional cost surprises later."

In other Jet2 news, the airline has celebrated its first flight to Palermo after the UK consumer champion's inaugural flight departed from Manchester Airport. As a result of this new flying programme, Jet2 will operate twice weekly (Tuesday and Friday) services from Manchester Airport to Palermo until November 3, 2026.
