Flights from a major UK airport have been cancelled and diverted after a "technical fault". Passengers have been asked to check with their airlines before travelling.

A technical fault with a backup generator at Norwich Airport has affected some flights. A spokesperson for the airport said the issue had affected "the use of some systems for which alternative power must be available under aviation regulations". Repairs to the backup generator are expected to be completed overnight. The Daily Express understands the issue involved a faulty backup generator. A spokesperson for the airport said: "We have been dealing with a technical fault with one of our standby generators that provides back-up power in the event of a mains failure.

"This has temporarily limited the use of some systems for which alternative power must be available under aviation regulations, and that in turn has impacted operations in the poor weather which we have experienced.

"As a result, a small number of flights have been cancelled or diverted.

"An engineer has attended the site today and identified the fault. We anticipate the issue being repaired overnight. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience and advise passengers to check with their airline for the very latest information."

There are 1.5 million people within a 90-minute drive of Norwich Airport, which covers Norfolk, Suffolk and North Cambridgeshire. The closest Airport, 85.5 miles, is Stansted. In 2024/25 the total number of passengers travelling through the airport reached 429,478.
