Rae Bareli. Four girls died, while three teenage girls were seriously injured in a tragic accident late Sunday evening on the under-construction Ganga Expressway. A speeding car crushed seven girls and teenagers walking on foot near Chuli village of Jagatpur police station area. After the accident, there was an outcry on the spot and an atmosphere of chaos was created in the district hospital.
According to the police, seven girls and teenagers including Shalini (20), her sister Sadhna (15), resident of Kodar village of Jagatpur area, Himanshi (22), Rashmi (15), Asma (18), resident of Aliganj of Bhadokhar area, had gone to attend the Bhandara organized in Chuli village on Sunday. After receiving Prasad at Bhandara, everyone was returning to their village on foot via the under-construction Ganga Expressway.
At around seven in the evening, a car passing through the expressway crushed everyone. On receiving the information, with the help of nearby people, the police took the injured to CHC Jagatpur, where doctors declared Shalini and Himanshi dead. Other seriously injured girls were referred to the district hospital, where Asma and Rashmi also died during treatment.
As soon as information about the accident was received, there was panic in the district hospital. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Pushpendra Kumar immediately alerted the team of doctors. Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Siddharth, CO Sadar Arun Kumar Nauhwar and Kotwali in-charge Shivshankar Singh also reached the hospital and took stock of the treatment arrangements.
After some time, District Magistrate Harshita Mathur and Superintendent of Police Ravi Kumar also reached the district hospital. He spoke to the families of the injured and the deceased and assured them of all possible help. The atmosphere of the hospital became sad due to the screams of the family members. Due to huge crowd in the emergency ward, there was a situation of chaos.
This accident broke many families. Himanshi, a daughter of Jang Bahadur, resident of Kodar village, died, while the other daughter Sadhna is battling for life and death. Father Jung Bahadur was seen in despair in the hospital pleading to save his daughter’s life. Ramnesh’s two daughters Riya Patel and Priya Patel were also injured in the accident and their treatment is ongoing.
On the instructions of the District Magistrate, post-mortem of all the dead was done in the night itself. The bodies of Asmaan, Himanshi, Shalini and Rashmi, residents of Kodar village, were handed over to their families after post-mortem. The last rites will be performed in the village on Monday. CO Dalmau Girjashankar Tripathi said that the car has been seized and the accident is being investigated. Walking on the expressway is prohibited, yet how the girls reached there is also being investigated.
