Vadodara. Due to the brilliant performance of the batsmen led by captain Jemimah Rodrigues, Delhi Capitals scored 203 runs for four wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final of the Women’s Premier League here on Thursday. Jemima played an innings of 57 runs in 37 balls with eight fours, while Laura Woolworth (44 runs, 25 balls, three fours, two sixes) and Chinelle Henry (35 not out, 15 balls, four fours, two sixes) played an important role in taking the team’s score beyond 200 runs by making a stormy partnership of 55 runs in 24 balls for the fourth wicket.
Jemima also added 76 runs with Wolvaert for the third wicket. The Delhi team is trying to win the title for the first time by playing in the final for the fourth time in four seasons, while the former champion Royal Challengers Bangalore team is eyeing the second title. Bengaluru captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to bat first, after which Lizelle Lee (37) and Shefali Verma (20) gave a steady start to Delhi Capitals.
Shefali hit the first four of the innings on Lauren Bell while Liezel hit two consecutive sixes on Sayali Satghare. Shefali hit two fours on Arundhati Reddy but was caught by wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh in the same over. Delhi scored 53 runs for one wicket in the power play. Laura Wolvaardt hit a four off Arundhati as soon as she came in, while Lizelle welcomed Shreyanka Patil with two fours and a six on consecutive balls.
Nadine de Klerk gave a big success to Royal Challengers Bangalore by getting Liesel caught by Grace Harris. Lizel hit three sixes and as many fours in her 30-ball innings. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues and Volvaart then took the innings forward. Jemima hit three fours on Shreyanka after hitting two fours on De Klerk. Delhi’s century of runs was completed in the 11th over.
Jemima completed her half-century in 32 balls with one run off De Klerk, which included seven fours. Jemima also hit a four on Satghare but after this her full toss ball was played into the hands of De Klerk at deep backward square leg. Chinelle Henry scored 24 runs on De Klerk in the 19th over with four fours and a six and then hit a six on Satghare also. Wolvaardt was run out on the last ball of the innings.
