time of surrender

According to news agency PTI, Rajpal Yadav surrendered before jail authorities at 4 pm today. Now the jail administration will follow the standard operating procedure as per the subject. It is worth noting that the Delhi High Court had already refused to extend the deadline for surrender.

Yadav’s appeal

Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer had argued that the actor had arranged for Rs 50 lakh and he needed one more week for the payment. However, Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma rejected his demand and said that there is no basis to grant him relief.

Background of the case

Rajpal Yadav had borrowed about Rs 5 crore from a company, M/s Murali Projects Private Limited. The company alleges that all the checks given by Yadav for return were bounced. These checks were issued for film production, but due to non-payment, the company filed a check bounce case against them. The lower court had convicted him and sentenced him to 6 months in jail.

Court’s strict stance

The company filed a case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Despite repeated agreements, Rajpal Yadav did not pay the money on time, due to which Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma showed strictness. The court clearly said that now no more relief can be given to them.
