The speed of the metro in the Taj city has become faster. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has increased the speed of work on the second corridor of Agra Metro. The deployment of heavy machines and the rapid construction of pillars indicate that the citizens may get the gift of the metro before the scheduled time.
The first corridor is being built from Taj East Gate to Sikandra. The civil work of SN Medical College, Agra College, Raja Ki Mandi and RBS College station of this corridor is almost complete. At the same time, the work of elevated stations like ISBT, Guru Ka Tal and Sikandra is going on fast. It is expected that this part will be opened to passengers by April 2026.
In the first phase of the second corridor, tracks are being laid from Agra Cantt to Agra College. Most of the pillars have been prepared and the goal is to start operating the metro on this part by March 2026. This means that passengers will get the facility of metro three months before the first corridor.
Under this project, a new bridge will be built about 15 meters high on the Yamuna River. Its design has been finalized. For this, the 133 KV high -tension line on the Mandi Committee will be increased to about 26 meters. After this work is completed, the metro will be operated and smooth.
Foot over bridge (FOB) will be built at all elevated stations in the second corridor. There are a total of 5 stations from Agra Cantt to Agra College and every station will have FOB facility. Apart from this, this facility will also be provided at nine further stations, so that passengers can cross the road and highway safely.
The second corridor will be 15 km long from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, including 14 stations. The track from Sultanganj Pulia will cross the Agra-Mathura Highway. Work has been started by barricading on this part.
UPMRC officials say the Agra Metro project will now be completed in January 2027 instead of April 2027. By then both the corridors will be completely operational and the city will get a total of 27 metro stations and 30 km long network.
