Punjab is facing a severe flood these days. The Central Government has sent Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on a visit to the state to take stock of the situation and assess the loss. Minister has reached Amritsar from the morning of Thursday (4 September). During the time of Punjab Governor Gulabchand Kataria submitted a detailed report prepared on flood affected areas to the Union Minister.
A press conference of the BJP leadership was held at the Amritsar Aviation Club. Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, Punjab BJP President Sunil Kumar Jakhar and BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh were present with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. Talking to reporters, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, “The whole country is proud of Punjab. Whenever there is a crisis, Punjab has suffered it on its chest. Today when Punjab is going through a difficult phase, the central government is fully standing with the state.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed him to visit flood affected areas and prepare a real situation report and submit it to the Prime Minister. Chauhan assured that the central government will provide all possible help and will not back down in the service of the people of Punjab.
Meanwhile, MLA from Ajnala and former cabinet minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal met the Union Agriculture Minister. He made a demand of Rs 2000 crore to compensate for immediate compensation for the damage caused by the floods. Apart from this, Dhaliwal also demanded the release of 60 thousand crore rupees for the Punjab government from the Center immediately.
Significantly, the Center has already sent two central teams to the spot to monitor relief and rescue operations. Chauhan will soon visit the flood affected areas and submit a report to the Prime Minister after assessing the situation there. It is clear that this disaster in Punjab has created a stir in political and administrative circles. Now everyone’s eyes are on how the central and state governments take steps towards relief and rehabilitation together.
