The trains coming and going towards Himachal have once again attacked anti-social elements. On Friday night, there was a stone pelting near Rupnagar on Janshatabdi train (12057) going from Una to Delhi, which broke the glass of Window seat number 48 of coach D9. It is a matter of honor that passenger Hardik Sharma had changed the seat in time, otherwise the accident could have become serious.

Stones on train, passengers narrowly survived

The incident took place about 200 meters from Rupnagar railway station, when some anti -social elements lashed out stones on the Jan Shatabdi train. The glass of D9 coach’s window seat number 48 was shattered. Araniyala (Una) resident Hardik Sharma was sitting on the same seat, but he had changed his seat some time ago, which saved his life. At the same time, a woman sitting near the window was also safe.

‘If the seat had not changed, a big accident could have happened’

Hardik Sharma said, “I was sitting on seat number 48, but a few minutes ago, two seats went ahead. Looking back, the entire glass of the window was broken and the pieces of glass were scattered. It was very scary.”

Information given on social media

Soon after the incident, Hardik Sharma informed about the entire incident by tagging Railways, DRM Ambala, RPF Ambala Division and Northern Railways on Internet Media Platform X (East Twitter). After this, the officials took cognizance and assured the action, but the arrest of stones has not been done yet.

Incidents of stone pelting have happened before

Incidents of stone pelting on trains in Una district are not new. In the year 2023, there was an incident of children throwing stones on Himachal Express near Gagret. At the same time, in 2022, many such incidents have taken place on the Una-Chandigarh railroad. Railways also set up warning boards at that time, but the result was zero.

Incidents have also taken place in Mehatpur and other areas

A few months ago, stones were thrown on a moving train near Mehatpur, in which the glass of a coach was broken. There was an atmosphere of fear among the passengers, but till date no concrete action was taken in this matter.

Fear among passengers, questions raised on railway

Due to the frequent stone pelting incidents, there is a fear among the passengers traveling on Una, Chandigarh and Delhi routes. Questions are being raised about the non -security arrangements for security by the railway administration. Passengers say that these incidents will not stop until strict action is taken against the culprits.

Railways assured action

Railway officials have assured the victim passenger that the incident is being investigated and the search for the culprits is going on. The team of RPF Ambala Division has gathered necessary information from the spot, but the pace of action is slow.

CCTV on track

Local people and passengers have demanded that CCTV cameras be installed on the banks of the railway track and the patrolling of RPF should be increased. Also, permanent police posts should be set up to monitor areas with anti -social activities.
