New Delhi, India: Indian captain Rohit Sharma celebrated 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryanshi’s historic century against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday.

As the quickest Indian ton-maker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the youngest T20 centurion, Suryavanshi made history.

Rohit wrote “Class” as the description for a photo about Vaibhav on his Instagram account after his record-breaking performance versus GT in Jaipur.

Regarding the 14-year-old, Hardik Pandya, the star all-rounder for India, said on his Instagram account, “What a talent, what a performance.”

Fans were treated to some very clean ball-striking from Vaibhav during the 210-run chase, as he hit 101 in only 38 balls with seven fours and eleven sixes. He scored runs with a 265.79% strike rate.

After Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2013, Vaibhav achieved his century in 35 balls, the second-fastest century in IPL history. In the IPL, Vaibhav is currently the quickest Indian player to reach a century.

The 14-year-old left-hander has surpassed Vijay Zol, who was 18 years and 118 days old when he scored a century for Maharashtra against Mumbai in 2013, to become the youngest player in T20 cricket history to reach 100 runs.

In T20 cricket, this is also the seventh-quick century; the fastest was scored by Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan against Cyprus in 2024, and it took just 27 balls.

In addition, Suryavanshi became the youngest player to ever hit an IPL fifty, reaching his fifty in only 17 balls—the fifth-fastest in league history.

Suryavanshi hit seven fours and eleven sixes of his 94 runs that went over boundaries. The IPL’s greatest boundary percentage in a century is 93%.

Gayle struck the most sixes overall during his legendary 175* against Pune Warriors India, which featured 17 maximums. Vaibhav also matched with former Indian hitter Murali Vijay for the most sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings, with 11 apiece.

In addition, Vaibhav and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 166-run partnership is the greatest for any Rajasthan Royals wicket, surpassing Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal’s 155 against DC at the Wankhede in 2022.

In three IPL games, Vaibhav has amassed 151 runs at an average of 75.50 and a strike rate of 222.05, with the highest score of 101*. He began his career by hitting a sixer against Shardul Thakur on his first ball in the league.

Suryavanshi becoming a Royal for Rs 1.1 crore was one of the greatest shocks of last year’s IPL mega-auction. Vaibhav is the youngest player on the list, having been born in Bihar on March 27, 2011. At the age of 12 years and 284 days, he made his Bihar first-class debut in January 2024. He scored an incredible century off of 58 balls during India U19’s match against Australia in Chennai last year.

During the SMAT 2024 competition, he also made his T20 debut for Bihar, albeit he was unable to score many runs in his lone appearance. Additionally, he finished sixth in the ACC Under 19 Asia Cup 2024–25 in terms of runs scored. In five tournament matches, he amassed 176 runs, with a peak score of 76*.

Prior to the game, RR put GT in the batting order. The top knocks for GT, which reached 209/4 in 20 overs, were half-centuries from captain Shubman Gill (84 in 50 balls, with five fours and four sixes) and Jos Buttler (50* in 26 balls, with three fours and four sixes). Maheesh Theekshana (2/35) was the top bowler for RR.

Vaibhav Suryanvanshi (101 in 38 balls, with seven fours and 11 sixes) and Jaiswal (70* in 40 balls, with nine fours and two sixes) blasted the opponents out of the water with a rapid 166-run stand in only 71 balls during the run-chase. Later, Riyan Parag made a brief appearance and led his side to victory in 15.5 overs with a score of 32* in 15 balls, including two fours and two sixes.

With three victories and seven defeats, RR has six points and is in ninth place. With six victories and three defeats, GT has 12 points and is in third place.
