has announced the closure of a store in June, just weeks after it . The supermarket giant said its store in College Square, Margate, will stop serving customers this summer.

Staff has been told the last day of trading will be June 21, reports. A spokesperson for Iceland said: "We can confirm our Margate Iceland . Our store colleagues have entered into a consultation process and have been offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible."

The latest announcement from Iceland, which boasts more than 900 branches across the country, comes amid the closure of several stores in the UK, prompting more concerns for the British High Street.

Sports Direct is shutting down one of its branches on April 18, the Newmarket Road store in Cambridge.

Margate is to be hit by another closure, with The Works saying earlier this week its local branch would shut down on June 8.

Meanwhile, Morrisons is to close its Haxby branch in Yorkshire on May 14, and stationary giant WHSmith is to shut down following the announcement it would sell its High Street shops to focus on its travel area.

Banks are also closing many of their branches, with NatWest to close 21 branches in May alone.
