British holidaymakers heading on a Spanish getaway have been met with a warning from the UK in light of the wreaking havoc across . Homes and vehicles have been deluged as the island wrestles with the aftermath of the severe weather event, while some holidaymakers have had their trips cancelled already.

Speaking to the Express from a UK airport, one disappointed holidaymaker said: "I've just had my holiday with Jet2 cancelled as the resorts in Lanzarote are flooded. I'm in the airport. Seems to be affecting a lot of people."

Local officials declared a state of emergency on Saturday amid the chaos caused by floodwaters. The once-busy streets now lie deserted, with cars cast aside due to torrential rainfall. Residents are battling not just the water but also a dreadful sewage stench, stemming from the flood's impact on waste systems.

The UK Foreign Office released an urgent travel advisory today (April 13), identifying Costa Teguise, San Bartolome, and Arrecife as critical locations braving the brunt of the floodwater. The advisory revealed that essential services across Lanzarote are reeling, citing power cuts in several hotels and mud-clogged roads.

Officials have urged those currently in Lanzarote, or planning to visit soon, to keep abreast of guidance from local authorities and stay up-to-date with ongoing meteorological reports.

On its gov.uk travel advice page, the Foreign Office warned: "Heavy rainfall and flooding in Lanzarote occurred earlier today (13 April 2025) with Costa Teguise, San Bartolome, and Arrecife particularly affected. Services across the island are affected. Some hotels are currently without power. Some roads are currently affected by mud. If you are in Lanzarote or travelling to Lanzarote, follow the advice of the local authorities and monitor local weather updates."
