It's been less than two days since Mickey Rourke entered the House and he has already sparked controversy. The American actor and former professional boxer, 72, after making a "homophobic" remark towards JoJo Siwa. Mickey later apologised for the comments, insisting he "didn't mean any bad intentions". Mickey has been in the spotlight since the 80s and became a Hollywood sensation after transitioning from boxing to acting.

He established himself as a leading man in films such as Rumble Fish (1983), Year of the Dragon (1985) and Angel Heart (1987). His chiselled physique and flowing locks swiftly turned him into the decade's sex symbol. However, his threatening behaviour on set led to him being ostracised from Hollywood in the early 90's, prompting him to return to boxing. At the age of 39 and blacklisted from Hollywood, Mickey re-entered the ring as a professional. But this resulted in two broken noses, a split tongue, shattered cheekbones, and even the risk of brain damage.

This led Mickey to undergo surgery, which led to dramatic changes in his appearance. He made a notable return to screens in 2005 with his role in the gritty thriller Sin City. However, the once dashing icon sported a noticeably altered face.

Mickey originally kept quiet about his surgeries but eventually opened up to Daily Mail in 2009, admitting: "Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing. But I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together."

Detailing the extensive reconstructive efforts, he disclosed: "I had my nose broken twice. I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone.

"I had to have cartilage taken from my ear to rebuild my nose and a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn't healing properly. That was one of the most painful operations, but the worst was haemorrhoids."

Speculation about Mickey's changing appearance had been rife since the '90s and only increased when his first wife, Debra Feur, claimed that his cosmetic procedures were down to his "insecurities".

"He got worse when he met his second wife, Carre Otis," she told . "She had issues with drugs but she was so beautiful that Mickey wanted to be a part of her world."

The former actress, who was married to Mickey from 1981 to 1989, continued: "That's when the plastic surgery started. He'll kill me for saying this but he wanted the part in one film so badly that he got cheek implants."

She recalled how Mickey told her his face was swollen because he'd had his molar teeth removed, but she didn't belive this was true. "He didn't have any molars to take out," Debra declared.

The former athlete continued to dabble with cosmetic surgery, as suggested by a 2017 post featuring a snapshot with his surgeon post-operation. Alongside the image, Mickey expressed: "Moments after nose surgery with Dr. Dhir. Now I am pretty again...one more to go."
