Known for his insightful and witty posts on social media platforms, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra is a prominent figure in the business world. Despite being a billionaire, Mahindra leads a remarkably simple life. With his enormous wealth, he could easily build a lavish bungalow just like the world’s most expensive private residence, Antilia—or even a palace—but instead, Anand Mahindra chooses to live in a modest home that he has held onto for years.
Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, has a net worth of Rs 3,13,03,00,70,859. Yet, instead of living in a luxurious mansion or a multi-storey high-rise, or penthouse, Mahindra chooses to reside in a decades-old bungalow — a home that holds deep emotional value for him.
Interestingly, Mahindra was once a tenant in this very house, and over the years, he grew so attached to it that he eventually bought it at a price much higher than market value. But where is the house located?
Located on the upscale Napean Sea Road in Mumbai, this three-storey home has been Anand Mahindra’s residence for years. And, he continues to live with his family. Anand Mahindra’s current net worth is $3.4 billion as of April 9, 2025, according to Forbes. The three-storey house on Napean Sea Road is not just any residence — it’s the very place where Anand Mahindra spent his childhood. After moving to Mumbai, his grandfather, K.C. Mahindra, was the first in the family to shift into this home.
Originally, the owner of the house used to park his cars there before he eventually rented it out. It was then that the Mahindra family moved in as tenants. When they first started living there, Anand Mahindra hadn’t even been born yet. But over time, the house became the backdrop of his childhood memories. He lived there for many years with his family, which is why the home holds such deep emotional value for him to this day.
Later, the Mahindra family moved out of the house, and it was eventually sold to someone else. According to the Zeenews Hindi report, one day Anand Mahindra came to know that the new owner was planning to demolish the property as part of a renovation project. This news left him deeply affected.
Without wasting a moment, Mahindra then decided to buy back the old house — and reportedly paid a Rs 270 crore to reclaim it. The house, which spans across 13,000 square feet, was then lovingly renamed by him as ‘Gulistan’.
Anand Mahindra named the house ‘Gulistan’, which means a garden of flowers. Since then, he has chosen to live in this very home, valuing memories over luxury. Instead of opting for a lavish lifestyle, Anand Mahindra decided to renovate the old three-storey structure and continue living there with his family.
Anand Mahindra has served on several influential bodies, including the Reserve Bank of India Board, UN Global Compact Board, Global Board of Advisors of the Council on Foreign Relations, and the World Bank Group’s Advisory Board for Doing Business. Mr Mahindra has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan Award (2020), India’s third-highest civilian honour, for his contribution to the nation in the field of ‘Trade and Industry’.
