Asda has announced it will not operate 24 hours over this month. All 1,100 stores across the country will be shut for the holiday. Therefore, customers hoping to grab some last-minute Easter treats may find themselves out of luck. Government rules dictate that shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres (or 335 square yards) must close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

The larger stores across England and Wales are set to open from 7am to 7pm on Good Friday and will welcome customers again on Easter Monday with the same opening hours as Good Friday. In Northern Ireland, Asda stores will also shut on Easter Sunday but will be open from 7am to 10pm on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday. While the operating hours in England, Northern Ireland and Wales are adjusted, Scotland's Asda opening hours will adhere to the usual Sunday trading laws.

These laws restrict the opening hours of larger retailers on Sundays. Scotland will follow the standard regulations for this Easter period, while England and Wales will be closing.

The regulations for Easter Sunday differ slightly from the usual Sunday trading laws, which require larger stores to close during certain hours.

While bigger shops must shut their doors, smaller ones may also choose to close if bosses decide to give their employees a day off.

Customers wishing to confirm the opening hours of their local Asda should use the store locator on Asda's website or mobile application.
