Tamil director Pa. Ranjith came down heavily on M.K. Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government over Dalit atrocities in the state and asked whether they would at least acknowledge such atrocities are happening under its governance.

Commenting on a video of Chief Minister Stalin’s ‘Ungalil Oruvan’ (One among you) on social media platform X, the Kollywood director charged most heinous caste atrocities are happening in Tamil Nadu without any hindrance. Saying violent atrocities have been committed against Dalits even in the recent past, Ranjith asked, “If not stop, would the state government at least acknowledge such caste atrocities are happening in Tamil Nadu?”

Criticising SC/ST minister and representatives of reserved constituencies, Ranjith said as the department and MPs and MLAs representing reserved constituencies are busy, he is ready to submit a report regarding recent Dalit atrocities in the state.

Ranjith, known for his films criticising caste atrocities, had come down heavily against the state government following the death of Bahujan Samajwadi Party state leader Armstrong. Armstrong was hacked to death nearby his residence in Chennai.

Chief Minister Stalin answered questions of the public in the ‘Ungalil Oruvan’ (One among you) video published on Saturday. Stalin answered questions on various issues in the video including opinion differences within the DMK-led alliance and opposition AIADMK’s criticism against the government. DMK’s key allies Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has sought a probe by CBI in the Vengaivayal caste atrocities case. The case revolves around mixing of human faeces in an overhead water tank in the Pudukottai district.
