At present, there are a total of 21 medical colleges in Bihar. Out of which 13 are government and 8 are private medical colleges. There are 1,615 MBBS seats in government medical colleges and 1,150 seats in private medical colleges. The major government medical colleges in Bihar include AIIMS Patna, Patna Medical College (PMCH), Nalanda Medical College, and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Bhagalpur.

Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and AIIMS Patna are considered the best government medical colleges in Bihar. PMCH has 200 MBBS seats and AIIMS Patna has 125 seats. AIIMS Patna was ranked 26th in the NIRF Ranking 2024.
