Residents of Ghansoli are dealing with frequent power outages that are interfering with everyday living and depressing festive events as temperatures rise around Navi Mumbai. The most recent occurrence was on Shri Ram Navami, when hundreds of people were left without power for more than four hours due to a protracted electrical outage. The problem has been regular, according to locals, who attribute it to recurring issues with transformers, DP boxes, and subterranean wires.
Residents of Ghansoli village claim that hundreds of people suffered in the intense summer heat as a result of the four-and-a-half-hour power outage that occurred from 8:30 am to 1 pm. As kirtankars (religious performers) and devotional singers who had assembled for the event were forced to perform without power, the disruption dimmed the joyful mood. Locals blamed the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for incompetence and voiced their disgust and rage.
A spark in the main subterranean power wire at the NOCIL junction, close to Talvali hamlet, was identified as the primary source of the outage. A vital substation that provides power to Ghansoli and the adjacent districts is connected to this cable. Around 1 PM, MSEDCL technical personnel continued their job after more than four hours of effort to restore the supply.
“A spark in the main cable was the source of the problem. Sunil Sarvade, Assistant Engineer, MSEDCL, Ghansoli, said, “As soon as possible, our team finished the required repairs and resumed supply.”
Residents want a long-term fix for the ongoing power issues, even after the restoration. They claim that for months, MSEDCL has been disregarding concerns, leading to frequent blackouts at night that compromise security and everyday life.
Residents are hoping that the government will act quickly to fortify the local power infrastructure and guarantee a continuous supply throughout the hottest summer months as temperatures continue to increase.
