New Delhi: Two prominent stars from opposite ends of the Indian film spectrum are battling it out at the box office, and it’s a nail-biter. It’s Bollywood vs Mollywood at the box office, and both Sikandar and L2: Employment are flexing their muscles in style.
As weekend numbers rolled in, it’s clear that these two cinematic titans are in no mood to slow down. Scroll down to read about these in detail!
Salman Khan’s action-packed Sikandar is firing on all cylinders. Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and directed by AR Murugadoss, hit theatres on Eid — a festive slot that’s long been Khan territory. With high-octane action, patriotic vibes, and a familiar star-studded lineup (Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Suneil Shetty), the film had all the ingredients of a holiday blockbuster.
Sikander opened strong and managed to clock in Rs 97.47 crore net in India by Day 7. Globally, the makers claim Rs 178.16 crore gross in 6 days — though industry tracker Sacnilk pegs it at Rs 154.35 crore.
L2: Employment opened with Rs 21 crore on the other side of the ring. The second instalment in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Lucifer trilogy has quietly built a solid Rs 94.12 crore net in 10 days. Starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, the film may not have Bollywood’s glitzy packaging, but it’s drawing in serious numbers with solid storytelling and a tight-knit fanbase.
Sikandar is clearly playing the mass entertainer card. Think stylised fight sequences, grand sets, and a thumping background score. It saw a small rebound in earnings on Day 7 with a 6.29% rise, suggesting audiences are still turning up post-Eid.
L2: Employment, however, is a slow-burn beast. Its numbers dipped mid-week but stabilised in the second weekend. With Rs 2.97 crore added on its second Saturday alone, the film shows staying power. It’s not sprinting; it’s pacing like a marathoner.
L2: Employment follows Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’raam, a don with a moral compass who’s out to dismantle the drug underworld. The cast includes Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas and Abhimanyu Singh.
