Next season's FOX NFL Sunday lineup will see a change as Jimmy Johnson, a staple of the show, has announced his retirement. FOX are also reportedly losing Peter Schrager from NFL Network, who has been a part of its NFL coverage since 2013, to ESPN. The familiar team of host Curt Menefee and analysts Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, Howie Long, and Johnson have been presenting the popular show together since 2008.
Johnson was an original member of the FOX NFL Sunday team when it launched in 1994. He often contributed via satellite to a vibrant panel that included Bradshaw, the Hall of Fame Quarterback from the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Long, the Hall of Fame Defensive Lineman from the former Las Vegas Raiders.
Reflecting on his time with FOX, Johnson expressed his sentiments to FOX's Collin Cowherd in early March: "As you know, probably the most fun I've had in my career, and that's counting Super Bowls and national championships, was at FOX Sports," he said. "I have an absolute ball with my friends on the set. The best friends I've ever had are at FOX.
"But I've made an extremely difficult decision. I've been thinking about it for the last four or five years, and I've decided to retire from FOX. I'm going to miss it. I'm going to miss all the guys. I'll see them occasionally. It has been a great run, starting back 31 years ago."
Johnson initially left the show in 1995 to coach the Miami Dolphins but returned to FOX NFL Sunday in 2002. The show has seen various members come and go over the years.
James Brown: Brown served as the show's host from 1994-2005 before leaving for a similar Sunday role with CBS Sports, primarily to be closer to his home in DC, where he has remained since.
Ronnie Lott: The former San Francisco 49ers Pro Football Hall of Fame safety transitioned into broadcasting after retiring. He spent three years with FOX (1996 and 1998), his first two being with FOX NFL Sunday.
Cris Collinsworth: Best known for his work with NBC on 'Sunday Night Football,' the former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver joined NFL on FOX in 1998 following his initial stint with NBC that same year. He was a mainstay in the FOX studio from 1998 to 2001 before spending a year alongside Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on the network's top broadcasting team.
Joe Buck: Buck, a veteran FOX announcer, spent a year in a more studio-focused role in 2006, serving as the network's pregame and postgame host.
Tony Gonzalez: The ex-Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs star tight end worked with the FOX NFL Sunday team from 2017-2020 in a supporting role. In recent years, he has been part of Amazon's NFL crew.
Barry Switzer: Like Johnson, Switzer is another former Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl-winning head coach. He joined Johnson, Bradshaw, and Long in 2007 but was replaced by Strahan just a season later.
