The UK's tallest lighthouse is located on a scenic island that barely anyone visits. The UK is home to hundreds of lighthouses dotted around the coastline of the country, many of which are found on and sweeping coastlines that people often visit for the breathtaking scenery. But it might be the tallest lighthouse in the UK that also takes the title of the country's most scenic.

North Ronaldsay Lighthouse is located on the breathtaking island of North Ronaldsay in the Orkney Islands. This beautiful Scottish island is located 36 miles from Kirkwall, the largest town on the . Describing this place as remote would be an understatement and you really feel far away from the madness of modern life when you are here. While its views and unique culture make for an excellent trip, North Ronaldsay doesn't have a huge number of annual visitors from around the UK even though it has the country's tallest lighthouse.

To get to North Ronaldsay, you can take a ferry from Kirkwall whih takes two hours and 40 minuites. When you are on the island, there are a small number of hotels you can stay in, but you could also do North Ronaldsay as a day trip.

In terms of other things to do here, there is a bird observatory, an archive centre and walks to do to take in the surrounding views and see some of the local sheep that call the island home. A visit here will really feel like you have stepped into the middle of nowhere on an island that has a population of less than 100 people.

The lighthouse was first built in 1852 on the island's northern tip. Standing at an impressive height of 42 meters (over 137 feet), it really is a sight to be seen for fans of architecture, sea life and stellar natural views.

As well as the beautiful red-brick lighthouse, which has withstood a variety of weather conditions over its lifespan, there are other historical structures, or the remnants of them, around this island, giving you a glimpse into what life was like on this island throughout the centuries.

If you are staying on the island overnight, then you will get to see this lighthouse in action once it gets dark as it shines out to the vast ocean, giving you the feeling that you really are in the middle of nowhere.

Tours of North Ronaldsay Lighthouse are available for tourists who, if they feel like they are able for it, can climb the 176 steps to the top to see the massive Fresnel lens.

When it comes to visiting lighthouse, tourists have had a great time experiencing it.
